Lenin's Own 20 Monster Quotes

When I went to the Soviet equivalent of college in the USSR (1978-83), Marxist classes were a requirement for staying in school and graduating. We had to read a lot of writings by Marx, Engels, and Lenin, plus their quotes were often written on posters and propaganda banners everywhere.

Historical data and quotes are as I remember them from "the old days" and are verified from my knowledge of Lenin's works. To the best of my knowledge quotes and historical data are accurate.

But if you're some petty-bourgeois academic who doesn't take my word for it and needs an exact provenance of the quote (you know who you are), go here and read Lenin's books yourself - because someone was motivated enough to translate them all into English!

A lie told often enough becomes the truth.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

There are no morals in politics; there is only expedience. A scoundrel may be of use to us just because he is a scoundrel.

-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

He who now talks about the "freedom of the press" goes backward, and halts our headlong course towards Socialism.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

We do not have time to play at “oppositions” at “conferences.” We will keep our political opponents… whether open or disguised as “nonparty,” in prison.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

One of the basic conditions for the victory of socialism is the arming of the workers and the disarming of the bourgeoisie (the middle class).

A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

The goal of socialism is communism.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

The bourgeoisie is many times stronger than we. To give it the weapon of freedom of the press is to ease the enemy's cause, to help the class enemy. We do not desire to end in suicide, so we will not do this.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

All our lives we fought against exalting the individual, against the elevation of the single person, and long ago we were over and done with the business of a hero, and here it comes up again: the glorification of one personality. This is not good at all. I am just like everybody else.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

Capitalists are no more capable of self-sacrifice than a man is capable of lifting himself up by his own bootstraps.

Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country.

Fascism is capitalism in decay.

It is impossible to predict the time and progress of revolution. It is governed by its own more or less mysterious laws.

The history of all countries shows that the working class exclusively by its own effort is able to develop only trade-union consciousness.
-- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

Under socialism all will govern in turn and will soon become accustomed to no one governing.

While the State exists there can be no freedom; when there is freedom there will be no State.

Are these his actual quotes? May I have a link to more of his ramblings?

Here's a good link -

https://en.thinkexist.com/quotes/vladimir_lenin/

There are four pages of Lenin's real quotes there. Please pick the ones you like and post them here.

Some of the more interesting quotes:

1. "It is true that liberty is precious - so precious that it must be rationed"
2. "Crime is a product of social excess"
3. "I am a bad, wicked man, but I am practicing moral self-purification; I don't eat meat any more, I now eat rice cutlets."
4. "The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency"
5. "Any cook should be able to run the country."
6. "The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses"
7. "Worst of all, it is women who usually have to do, usually alone, all the dirty work of the kitchen and household, work that is unimportant, hard, tiresome, and soul-destroying"

Ragnar Danneskjold
I can not see why someone could possibly believe this man after saying something like, "It is true that liberty is precious - so precious that it must be rationed". Although in our society we are adopting this kind of thinking. I was taken aback by this quote from the FDA admin.
"To argue that people ought to be able to choose their own risks…" says former FDA commissioner David Kessler, "is to impose an unrealistic burden on people."
Freedom it would seem is an unrealistic burden that must be purged from society before we can all be free.

"You just keep saying something no matter how untrue and unfactual it might be, over and over and over again, and try to drive the politics to meet your ideological or commercial agenda,"
-Hillary Clinton

A lie told often enough becomes the truth.
-Vlad Lenin

They match!

Except that Hillary is no match to Lenin in keeping it short and simple. She used 33 words, he used 8 - delivering the same message way more effectively. Looks like he has read Strunk & White's "Elements of Style" and she hasn't.

That's because the DNC doesnt admit they are communist.
She couldnt use Lenin's exact words or the idiots that vote for her might realize what she really is.

Hillary only butchered that Lenin quote to avoid Joe Bidendom.

simple serf
Dear most compassionate Lenin.. I have worked soo long and hard.. this liberty you speak of. would it be possible for me to have a harmonica to play but simple songs.. i know you are an avid music listener since you took all the musicians out of our village. would the motherland frown upon my wants?

"It would be the greatest mistake, certainly, to think that concessions mean peace. Nothing of the kind. Concessions are nothing but a new form of war."
—Vladimir Lenin

Surely he was a great man. The only man able to crush the imperial dogs of the evil czarist state.

Just because the United States used its evil international clout to destroy the USSR, and that the poverty and virtual slavery of its people were all obviously lies, does not mean our ideals don't live on!

Oh, here are some doozies

"Your first response must be to establish a dictatorial troika (i.e., you, Markin, and one other person) and introduce mass terror, shooting, or deporting the hundreds of prostitutes who are causing all the soldiers to drink, all the ex-officers, etc. There is not a moment to lose; you must act resolutely, with massive reprisals. Immediate execution for anyone caught in possession of a firearm. Massive deportation of Mensheviks and other suspect elements."

V.I. Lenin, to the Executive Committee in Nizhni Novgorod, 9 Aug 1918

And the next day, he sent another pretty violent order to the Penza soviet. Excerpt:

"You must make an example of these people [the kulaks]. (1) Hang (I mean hang publicly, so that people see it) at least 100 kulaks, rich bastards, and known blood-suckers. (2) Publish their names. (3) Seize their grain. (4) Single out the hostages per my instructions in yesterday's telegram."

Troikas are fun.

I actually laughed out loud at that since I thought the same thing.

I think we all know who has been taking note.

Lenin had some interesting quotes on the subject of art, literature, and propaganda, which he thought were inherently intertwined.

We put the ART in "The PARTY"!

- Comrade Red Square (upon reading Lenin's quotes below).

------------

The art of any propagandist and agitator consists in his ability to find the best means of influencing any given audience, by presenting a definite truth, in such a way as to make it most convincing, most easy to digest, most graphic, and most strongly impressive.

Lenin, The Slogans and Organisation of Social-Democratic Work (1919)
--------

What is this principle of party literature? It is not simply that, for the socialist proletariat, literature cannot be a means of enriching individuals or groups: it cannot, in fact, be an individual undertaking, independent of the common cause of the proletariat. Down with non-partisan writers! Down with literary supermen! Literature must become part of the common cause of the proletariat, “a cog and a screw” of one single great Social-Democratic mechanism set in motion by the entire politically-conscious vanguard of the entire working class. Literature must become a component of organised, planned and integrated Social-Democratic Party work.

Lenin, The Slogans and Organisation of Social-Democratic Work (1919)
-------------

And this one makes sense (written before the Revolution, when the Communists supported "bourgeois freedoms" that suited their goals - that changed later). This quote was used to squash free speech after the Party established a dictatorship. According to Marx, a dictatorship by the Party was necessary for the good of the people (and Marx could not be questioned). Thus being anti-Party was equated with being the enemy of the people. Funny how freedom of association was used to extinguish all other freedoms, including itself.

------------

Everyone is free to write and say whatever he likes, without any restrictions. But every voluntary association (including the party) is also free to expel members who use the name of the party to advocate anti-party views. Freedom of speech and the press must be complete. But then freedom of association must be complete too. I am bound to accord you, in the name of free speech, the full right to shout, lie and write to your heart's content. But you are bound to grant me, in the name of freedom of association, the right to enter into, or withdraw from, association with people advocating this or that view. The party is a voluntary association, which would inevitably break up, first ideologically and then physically, if it did not cleanse itself of people advocating anti-party views.

Lenin, Vladimir Ilich (13 November 1905), "Party Organisation and Party Literature", Novaya Zhizn (Marxists) (12).

---------------

Interestingly enough, Soviet Communists used all of Lenin's contradictory quotes, manipulating them to their own needs, much like today's Muslim clerics use Mohammed's contradictory quotes in the Koran. Verses written later supersede those written earlier (the principle of abrogation), but all of them can be used creatively when it fits the current agenda.

The principle of abrogation in the Koran is crucial in understanding Islam. This is something that both Islamists and their critics can agree with.

It's very ironic that the atheist Communists are using the same principle in much the same way.
