Obama Shakes Raúl Castro's Hand

The President is shaking hands with Raul Castro. Here is why it is not a good thing.

I had a Spanish teacher in high school who was born and raised in Cuba and was there when Castro took over. Castro confiscated his house, burned all his books in his pool while he and his family were forced to watch, confiscated all the money in his bank account and then gave him a choice while he was on the tarmac with his family waiting for a plane to fly to the United States. Here was that choice. He could fly to America and his family could spend 3 years in prison or he could spend 3 years in prison and his family could fly to America. Like the man he was, he chose freedom for his family, kissed them all goodbye and was shipped off on the spot in front of his kids to 3 fun filled years in the gulag.

When he told me this story in 1989, he was well into his 80's and tears filled his eyes as he recounted in agonizing detail those last moments with his family on the tarmac as our Spanish class sat there mesmerized at the pain this man had to endure. Three years later he was let out of prison and took a boat to Miami to rejoin his family in a brand new country where he did not speak the native language and despite the fact that he was a successful lawyer in Cuba, he had not one penny in his pocket because Castro had taken it all. He did however have his family and was given political asylum in the greatest, freest country in the world and he never forgot the country that gave him a new start.

He learned English, became a citizen, rebuilt his life from nothing and was one of the best teachers I ever had. I wonder what he would think if he was alive today to see the President of the United States, the leader his beloved new homeland, shake hands with the man who put him through a hell the kind of which I can only imagine. He would most likely put his foot through the television.

I am glad Professor Oliver is not around to see this because despite the fact that this man had the biggest heart of anyone I ever met, it would still break at this sight. You may like the President. You may hate the President, that is your choice in a Democracy and that is a beautiful thing. However, if I were the President rest assured, Fidel Castro is the last person on earth I would ever shake hands with.

Red Square, you may have similar stories about Russia. Please feel free to put this on the Mother Page as it would be a nice way to remember my teacher. This story is also an important reminder that we as Americans never forget just how good we have it here. I do not have a photo of the man or I would post it.

Have consolation Comrade. I work in the Thought Police, and we have the picture(as well as every other picture in the world) here in database. He would have washed his hands afterward had it been Margeret Thatcher's, or Winston Churchill's Hand.

As an American, that photo should bother you at some kind of core level.

It's a matter of perspective. Had Barry recognized Castro's brother, he'd have bowed, as it is, he sees a latino blessed to shake the hand of the keynote speaker...I hear he was clowning around and taking selfies during the remarks of lesser speakers...

Obama is so at ease around misfits and malcontents, that this greeting - to him at least - is no different than meeting a total stranger. It's just another opportunity for him to smile, charm, pander, and add another member to his list of conquests. (in HIS mind) It's always about HIM.

Lets remember that Obama has telegraphed in the '08 campaign his willingness to meet with every tyrant on Earth, and that was celebrated by the Media and about half of the country. Now, he is just being himself among his own, and the left loves to see this kind of meddling on the live TV.

This creeping descent into liberal fascism will not change until the majority in this country changes its attitude about the role of government and its leader/figurehead. The way the Left has been seduced with the institutional power, makes me think that nothing short of another Ukraine 2013/Serbia 2001/... would change their minds. Once when their children are on the barricades, the SWATs will stand down, which is the point when totalitarian regime crumbles.
We need a list of comrades whose body language was not sufficiently approving of the glorious imagery of Dear Leader greeting, kissing and selfieing at the funeral. We will investigate identified comrades, and determine which ones should be detained for further questioning and which released & monitored.

Are you kidding? He wouldn't have shaken Churchill's hand. Denis Miller had one of his co-professors at U Chicago on his show a while ago; one who has done a lot of resarch showing gun ownership decreases crime. He introduced himself to Obama, reached out his hand to shake it, and Obama kind of smirked and walked away. He will shake hands with dictators and anti-Americans, not those who really do stand for freedom.
