Solution to the problem of so many empty stores in NY!

The key element in the story is when the writer starts suggesting solutions for the problem of empty store fronts and the greedy landlords.

"Another idea that merits consideration — and is likely to need Albany's approval — is some sort of a “vacancy tax” on those landlords who leave storefronts unoccupied for years..."

Followed quickly by:

"Details would, of course, have to be worked out, including how steep a tax after how long a period of vacancy."

We all know these "details" would be made as painful as possible to punish the greedy landlords for their evil profiteering ways.

What about the uncooperative shoppers who refused to patronize the shops and caused them to go belly-up? Shouldn't they be assessed some sort of "non-patronization tax" or something? I say go for it!

Indeed. And then there might be a "stimulus bonus," a check (minus the cost of processing both the idea and the paperwork) sent to city denizens to use in the stores (which still have no tenants or merchandise). What a glorious and long-proven solution to the problem.

Yet another solution (already field-tested!) :

a) nullify border control, install "Willkommenskultur", let cultural enricherers in
(7-digit numbers/year¹)

b) as "Willkommenspolitiker", tap your forehead as you note: heck, vee haff no shelter
for them 7-digits!

c) as true progressist, get a prog-mind-blitz: huh, empty flats! forced quartering! or else - expropriation²!


¹ Apply at least factor 1,5 enrichers per 100 citizens. That's the German factor of 2015.
For Amerikkka, the resulting 7-digit yearly influx is ca. 4.800.000 .

(In fairness: German madness of 2015 - officially ca. 900.000, really ca. 1.200.000 - "reduced" in 2016/17 to (officially) "only" ca. 300.000 per year.)
