If Politicians Told the Truth in Advertising...

User avatar
Have you ever bought into a feel-good political idea and then discovered that the outcome is different from expected, and the side effects are even worse?

That would not be happening if politicians, like businesses, needed to stick to truth in advertising. We prepared some samples of political ads promoting feel-good ideas while at the same time keeping it honest.

Image
GOVERNMENT REGULATION: Contrary to what it sounds like, it's not the government that gets regulated.

Image
PUTTING THE ENVIRONMENT FIRST: this could be a polluting production line; now it's clean, carbon-neutral unemployment line.

Image
ECONOMIC JUSTICE: The factory is closed. This rich corporation paid their fair share.

Image
GUN CONTROL: ...because you can't make a Stalinist Omelet with an armed populace.

Image
HELPING THE DISADVANTAGED: In the 1960s this was a run-down ghetto, but thanks to 50 years of liberal policies this is ...

Image
CHOICE: Harvester of Sorrow Abortion Clinic.

Image
EQUALITY: Job application with a racial questionnaire

Image
REACHING ACROSS THE AISLE: Making RINOs out of Republicans one at a time.

Image
TAXES: It's not theft if you have to fill out a form (I'm from the government and I'm here to help).

Special thanks to General Secretary for coming up with the idea.

The TAXES picture, with slight modifications, is available it our store on shirts, mugs, stickers, magnets, postcards, posters, etc.

Here's an earlier version of the HELPING THE DISADVANTAGED ad - rejected because it seemed too confusing.

Regarding the ghetto, liberal policies -- though always helpful -- were not even necessary. The colorful local culture of the ghetto can resist change to any policy, as demonstrated by the same liberal policies that failed to produce similar effects outside the ghetto.

For that matter, the ghetto resists reactionary policies as well.

The ghetto, to me, is an intoxicating and exhilarating culture; a glorious warm stew of what is right with the world.

Last person I heard utter the word "honest" was sent to Jiffy Lobo... I haven't seen Carlos in years. I hope he's okay...

User avatar
Honest Politician. Isn't that an oxymoron?

And one more:

FAIRNESS: Life isn't fair, but the government can make it up for you at the expense of the lives of others.

responsibility.jpg
Responsibility is never having to say you are sorry for taking other people's money for self promotion and power. The ruling class' responsibility is to take money from the common herd and our responsibility is to give it to them without objecting or questioning.

Thankfully our motherland's government knows how to spend our money better than we do.

Soldat -

The Party directs you to stop making posts that have nothing to do with the topic. The deleted image was of little value to us - you wouldn't get two rotten beets for it on a Plovdiv market on a good day. If you keep making off-topic comments, your entire posts will follow, and then your entire online persona will be airbrushed from history. Many red warriors have vanished before you, their records erased and altered by the very Party leaders whom they faithfully served. But you know the story - you're one of them, aren't you?

"If Politicians told the truth", they would not be politicians. Most would have to work the streets for the mafia, or a grocery bagger at a market. However this "M" word does not exist, ask any politician.

Major Mistake says whatever you say, boss!

While there is sophistication in your words Komrade Kurgman, I must point out that while liberal policies Government Kompassion may not have been necessary to create and maintain the aforementioned afromentioned "colorful local culture" one must bear in mind that Government Kompassion was necessary for US to feel good about ourselves as progressives and our good intentions.

So, despite the lackluster results of our well-intented programs, they have still garnered much benefit to the Kollective. Indeed, for us to feel good about ourselves is worth every penny removed from the pockets of others. Wouldn't you agree?

As some might say, the road to hell (provided one believes in such poppykock) is paved with good intentions. At least we may find solace in the fact that our ride will be a smooth one -- considering how much it has cost us.

Zampolit Blokhayev wrote:Honest Politician. Isn't that an oxymoron?

Not an oxymoron, Herr Komrade. Remember -- honestly implies that there exists such a thing as "Eternal, Unchangable Truth."

However, we all know that all "truth" is relative. The only truth that exists is what we can/will enforce by virtue of our power to impose it.

Ergo, any politician who is able to impose enforce his/her/its version of truth IS being honest in every word and deed. Thus there exists no paradox.

Some fine examples:

* Two and Two make Three.

* Retaining people on Unemployment Insurance Benefits creates jobs and economic growth.

* Gold is not money.

* A tax cut is a government expenditure.

* Removing/destroying wealth in the private sector actually grows the economy.

From wince does one think we derive the terms "Current Truth" anyway?

User avatar
Very nice work as usual comrade Director. But is it wise to provoke thoughts in the collective?
(Thoughts are troublesome things)

User avatar
Dear Pathetic, may I call you Pathetic, I see you have cornered the truth on Conservatism. They wish to once again enslave blacks. And curses on those former Republicans from Lincoln to Nixon who championed black freedoms and opposed the Democratic party's bigotry. And we all know the USA is filled with sweat shops, which is why we need Labor Unions to coerce exorbitantly high wages from undeserving proprietors who are all obscenely and unfairly rich. Gay's especially suffer in America being unable to marry and, well, being unable to marry.

Now, Sara Palin is another matter altogether. A former governor, journalist, and currently loaded and powerful, not to mention quite attractive.

Most Pathetic, I believe you may have your underwear slightly askew. Might I suggest a good picket line somewhere or possibly some community organizing. It better suits you.

User avatar
Alert, we have a liberal in an anarchist disguise. I shall await your purging.

User avatar
Your graphics demonstrate your liberal social position. I guess your fiscal conservatism has yet to emerge. Maybe it lies in your support for unions, pardon me while I weep for impoverished teachers. They are just not equal enough yet, are they. This has always been an "Old Republican" position.

Does purging, banning, eradicating and otherwise disposing of you seem harsh? Well, we are nothing if not intolerant. But I can't speak for the Party. The Committee on Deranged Liberal Posting is in session now, so a ruling should be forthcoming shortly.
ImageI'm an "Old Republican"

dead troll.jpg

My graphics only offer a marginal tipping of the scale. I could post funny anti-liberal posters that over-simplify things, but that's already been done, so I over-simplify rightism. After all, life is either black or white, right?

I'm not trolling. You can't denounce an individual as a troll because you're incapable of debate or conversation. I have no intention of purposefully upsetting individuals. I simply offer the debate, through pictorial representation, that social issues and political ideologies are not as clear cut as some may believe. We can't look at Planned Parenthood and suggest that it's all about abortion, when its not even in the top ten of its primary purposes. We can't claim that all taxes are bad with some silly image stolen from an artist and then sold on mugs. We can't claim that unemployment and poverty is a direct result of helping the environment. We can't say that all politicans lie and that government is bad, becaususe it doesn't get us anywhere as a society.

Being fiscally conservative does not mean being opposed to trade unions. Allow me to educate: Fiscal conservatism advocates the benefit of avoiding deficit spending. A fiscal conservatives believe in the balancing of the budget. Now, one may associate lowering taxes and the deregulation of economic policy to be fiscally conservative and they would be right to debate such a definition. A fiscally conservative individual is not entirely opposed to socialist spending (at least not a rational one, given that socialism has always existed in America). A fiscally conservative individual simply wishes that the government be mindful of its spending and make cuts when necessary.

Sorry, I know it's hard to understand what Republicans used to be like before theocrats hijacked the party. There was a time when being on the right didn't mean turning a blind eye to the environment (remember, Reagen created the clean air board in California). It didn't involve hating Mexicans (Reagen provided amnesty for hard working immigrants!). It meant keeping religion out of politics as best as one could (Remember, Reagen signed the most liberal abortion rights in his state AND opposed the firing of teachers just because they were gay). Education wasn't associated with being elite. Science wasn't an enemy. Progress was a good word!

We used to be great. We used to be Ronald Reagen (although I did oppose his wild spending). Now we're Sarah Palin. ""He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." and Michele Bachmann - "Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.'

What the fuck happened to my party?

User avatar
Mr. Pathetic, (have I yet expressed my pleasure with your choice of moniker) you have referred to your graphics as "funny" several times. I can not recall any other person on this forum referring to his (yes I am sexist to the core) own postings as "funny". Perhaps we need to start labeling our graphics as funny or serious, just to keep our slower constituency up to speed. And yet, if one needs to label them ...

As to "educating" anyone and "knowing it is hard to understand", your pseudo-intellectualism is compelling, almost erotic, as in "I love that in a man". Egomaniacism is irresistable, don't you think.

But don't mistake my continuing this discussion for taking you seriously. Not that everything you say is entirely off base. Ok, I looked, everything is crap, sorry, I was wrong.

Rush Limbaugh has said (you like Rush Limbaugh, right, just guessing) about balance, that he need not be balanced because he is the balance. ThePeoplesCube does not need you for balance. ThePeoplesCube is the balance. Do we think we are perfect? Of course we do, and it is greatly offensive that you do not agree, and thereby exposing you ignorance.

But you being a gay, aborted, old Republican does elicit sympathy from ThePeoplesComrade, in a strange mercy-killing fashion. I finally understand Pol Pot's attitude. Let me guess, you are French, admit it, Pathetically French. I knew it.

Your ad hominem attack wounds me, brother. Attacking me personally systematically and scientifically reduces my argument to dust. I weep.

User avatar
Using the words "systematic and scientific" always helps the illusion of credibility and should come in handy around the Jon Huntsman campaign headquarters.

User avatar
Wow! That Palin sure is stupid! I can't believe anybody would say science killed Jesus! She's really really stupid! That'll show those stupid teabaggers! Yeah!

User avatar
Ivan, I told you to never leave the asylum door open. Now look.

User avatar
Oh dear.

"Calling Commissarka Pinkie - calling Commissarka Pinkie - "

It is the politicians 'Holier than Mao' attitude when they interfere in our lives that makes them truly pathetic.

Pathetic Phallacy wrote:A bitter distaste for the current political system in America is not Anarchy, it's rationalism.

The idea of paying individuals for doing nothing is asinine. However, denying women the right to their bodies and gays the right to marriage while simultaneously denouncing the interjection of the state on the rights of the people is a tragic hypocrisy.

You see, I'm a Republican of old. I'm not the new, racist and religiously fanatical Republican we have today.

Banning individuals that don't lean as far right as the majority of this site seems a little . . . fascist? I only suggest the far right since Obama is called a socialist on here despite the fact that he's a fence-sitting centrist. I like posting funny posters that break down complicated social and political issues into clear black and white binaries too!

I would have to say that you're either a fence-sitting "Moderate", or perhaps an "Independent"? And who are you calling a "fascist", and a "Racist'? You are just the undecided type of voter that has allowed this country to fall for the "socialist" lies of Obama and his ilk, my pathetic comrade. "Obama, a fence-sitting centrist".....now that's funny!

User avatar
Mr. Pathetic phallus, your humor is limp, your logic is flaccid. Maybe a brain splint might improve your output.

User avatar
Che, I'm not sure why you are taking exception to the "Just say no to socialism" poster. Other than the absolute ridiculousness of such a statement, it is based on established fact. There were no jails before Socialism. The postal service did not exist before the publication of the Communist Manifesto in 1848; prior to that date, Capitalists branded their words on the backs of slaves and sent them under armed guard to deliver messages. Nor were there any parks or nature preserves. Libraries and schools did not exist until Teachers Unions demanded them. Roads and highways (and for that matter, railroads and canals as well) were only possible after Socialism created a Working Class to construct them. Prior to this, humanity lived in isolated communites separated by trackless wilderness. And there most certainly were no armies before 1848! Until Marx revealed the existence of class conflict, there had been no wars fought, except for stuff like jousting, and that was all done by nobles. Now, some might say that the mass conscript armies created during the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution were real, because they were conscripted by the Jacobins, but the Jacobins were at best Utopian Socialists, and thus they don't count. Nor were there any veterans' pensions or veterans' hospitals; that thing at Chelsea established by Elizabeth I was just a potemkin operation.

And there were no beaches before Engels built one at Brighton.

What really surprised me on this list is that with the exception of Medicare, the true triumphs of Socialism are not mentioned in this poster. Where is Welfare? What about Food Stamps? Dammit, if it weren't for us, there would be people trying to exist without a free, prepaid cellphone! But with the exception of Medicare, there is not a single redistribution of wealth initiative listed here!

User avatar
I believe the point is that without some form of Socialism, social necessities can not be forced upon an unenlightened proletariat. For example: The Party has decided commercial streets would better serve the proletariat by being walking paths while restricting automotive parking outside the Five Mile Commercial Health Zone ™. Democratic Capitalism could never implement such a zone (which has been proven by The Al Gore Institute of Commercial Science ™ as being essential to planet preservation).

A case in point is 2005, Kelo v. City of New London which made eminent domain infamous. The Supreme Socialist Court ruled the State could seize private property for "carefully planned development" Today 2011, it is a dump site. The state knows best. Who doesn't need a good dump site?

Pathetic Phallacy, I must apologize for my fellow Cubist for not giving you a more gracious welcome. I can't explain this, usually we are very friendly to newcomers. So please let me give you a warm welcome to The People's Cube! We are pleased that you are here, and it looks like you brought all your tools.

Normally newbies are directed to orientation which begins here. However, I can tell that you are already a journeyman or perhaps a master in the trade of deceit, slander, and revisionism. You have your anti-Christian bigotry down pat, and you are not the lest bit hesitant to use false charges of racism and homophobia as a political weapon. You are a hero! Clearly you are a student of the great Chomsky and I'm sure you are all caught up with your Howard Zinn and Naomi Klein reading. Certainly you must hold a degree from one of our Institutions of Higher Indoctrination. I'd say it's even possible that you teach at one. No need for you to visit the Karl Marx Treatment Center, you are already neck deep in shame, despair, and guilt, yet your feelings of superiority remains.

I swoon at your footwork to avoid being labeled, although I see your tell. You are not a “Progressive conservative with a dash of libertarianism ” as you say, for there is no such animal. Now Progressive Republican, those do exist, in far too great of numbers, but you are not one. I'd say you fancy yourself as a Socialist libertarian with a dash of anarchism, just like Noam. Of course the reality is, you and Chomsky are Leftist, which means you'd be happy with a totalitarian one party rule if those in power agreed with your vision.

Any who, it's great that you are here. I hope I'm not too late in welcoming you. If this was just a Hit and Run for you, I will be shattered... sha-doobie shattered.

User avatar
My Dearest Brother in Peace Pathetic Phallacy,

Don't listen to these other progs. As a good and caring comrade I edited all your images to give you proper credit for your genius propaganda skills. Thanks for adding to the irony.

Your Fave Communista Chicken,

Red Rooster
